Below, you will find a breakdown of typical OE style restoration costs along with a brief description of the range of hours involved.
Restoration is a time-intensive process that can become more complex if hidden damage is discovered or if there are issues with parts availability. An accurate assessment of any hidden damage cannot be made until the vehicle has been fully disassembled and stripped to bare metal. With that in mind, here's a concise overview of what a full OE-style restoration involves. Concours restorations & show cars may exceed the times listed below by 500-800 hours.
* Disassembly: 40-50 Hours to fully disassemble a project, including labeling, bagging, boxing, compiling a parts list, and initial cleaning.
* Component Restoration: 120-150 Hours for cleaning, blasting, restoring, painting components, and parts research & procurement.
* Body Work: 180-250 Hours for fiberglass or metal work, including minimal rust repairs, fitting, gapping and adjusting sheet metal.
* Paint Work: 200-350 Hours for disassembling & reassembling the body to chassis, masking, priming, prepping, and painting.
* Polish: 30-50 Hours for wet sanding, polishing the paint & cleaning hidden areas to a show-quality finish.
* Chassis/Suspension: 80-100 Hours to assemble the chassis, brakes, steering & suspension.
* Driveline: 130-220 Hours for rebuilding, assembling, detailing & installing engine, transmission, differential, cooling system, fuel system & exhaust.
* Interior: 120-190 Hours for all interior components, trim, weatherstripping, air conditioning, firewall, & trunk related items.
* Final Assembly: 160-250 Hours for the final assembly of electrical, air conditioning, glass, exterior moldings, chrome, bumpers & emblems.
* Setup/Tune/Test: 20-60 Hours for testing, setup, running up, road testing, inspections, nut & bolt check, adjustments, and debugging.
This results in a total of 1080 to 1670 Hours for a complete restoration, covering labor costs only.
Parts and materials will range from $60,000 to $90,000, depending on options, upgrades, availability, shipping & brokerage costs.
Please note this is only a rough estimate for full restorations as each restoration is unique. Hidden damage and/or missing components, Reasearch & Parts Procurement will incur additional costs.
